WEEK 2: Advent Calendar, Biblical Ornaments & Flicker Candle
I was privileged to receive my own advent calendar. It was definitely my favorite item!
Shadow Box Advent Calendar
A lasting and memorable way for you to custom create the perfect advent calendar for your family! Fill the small boxes with treats, scriptures, or whatever your imagination suggests.
Size: 15½" x 23" x 3½"

24 number cards
16 Christmas icon cards
24 kraft boxes
24 metal clips

In my opinion:

I love advent calendars! So, it was fun when the wonderful staff from Deseret Book gave each of the bloggers one to take home. I was incredibly happy and speechless. The picture above creates the perfect way to display it. It is perfect for Christmas and I can't wait to fill each box with candy, toys ornaments or scriptures each year. This advent calendar will be a new tradition for my family so I'm super excited about it. I already know where I will display it.

There are so many other ways to use the advent calendar. You could use it for your collections such as rocks, coins, cars, statues, or treasures. I'm sure if I let my three year old son play with the cabinet, he would fill each hole with an action figure, animal, ball, pom pom or car.

There are also many ways to transform your advent calendar. Many suggestions were to paint it white or gold or even a light brown. I recommend laminating each card so it will last longer. I found that the boxes were a little hard to come out so I thought that you could glue some cute wooden knobs on each one. Or, you could take the boxes out and fill each hole with an ornament, tree or other Christmas item. Or, you could create your own boxes, add a treat, wrap the gifts and place in each hole.  You could also lay it flat and use it as a storage system for beads, legos, buttons, puzzles, etc. Another idea is to hang the cabinet above the fireplace or table.

The possibilities are endless. I know the advent calendar will have many wonderful and lasting memories in my family. I definitely recommend this advent calendar from Zion's Mercantile Company.

The next item is...
Biblical Names of Christ Ornament Set

Create a Christ-focused holiday tradition as you review the sacred names of the Savior. Display these antique pewter-finish ornaments on the tree, as gift tags, or adorning a wreath on the front door. A scripture reference accompanies each ornament, perfect for a "Twelve Days of Christmas" countdown. 12-piece set.
In my opinion:
I'm super excited about starting the "Twelve Days of Christmas" countdown with my family. I love traditions especially when they are centered around Christ. I love how the ornaments are beautifully displayed in a red box.  On the back of the box are 12 Biblical Names of Christ. Each one has a scripture from the Bible to read as you place the ornament on your Christmas tree. I think this is a wonderful tradition.
Here are my suggestions: I think the scripture should be printed on one side of each ornament. That way, you don't have to refer to the box each time.  Also, I didn't see any hooks in the box to hang the ornaments. So, it would be nice to have some simple hooks included in the box. That way it is ready to go on the tree.
What else could you use these for? You could tie one on a gift for a neighbor or friend. Also, Zion's Mercantile sells cards with an ornament tied on. You could buy individual cards for $2.95 each or buy the Biblical Names of Christ Ornament set for $14.95 (much cheaper) and make your own cards. Then, include a card with a simple gift (see Flicker Candle below). Such an easy gift especially when one runs out of time.
The third product I wanted to share is a...
Flicker Candle

Many are the Old World traditions of a lighted candle in the window, representing warmth and welcome or the memory of family members far away. What will it symbolize in your home?

Auto on/off — on for 6 hours, off for 18
Long-lasting LED flicker bulb
Requires 2 AA batteries (not included)
In my opinion:
These Flicker candles reminded me of QVC during Christmas. My husband loves watching QVC especially when it is closer to Christmas time. He never bought anything from QVC but I'm sure he has been tempted once or twice. These Flicker Candles are perfect for Christmas or even Halloween. They are super cheap ($4.95) and can be placed in every window of your house. They look pretty expensive from outside too. This is a great gift idea at a great price. Give one to your Visiting Teacher or Home Teacher, neighbor, friend, family member, etc etc. Give one to your missionary or military son or daughter. It symbolizes a loved ones return. I definitely think this would make the perfect Christmas gift.
Deseret Book was nice enough to give me an extra Flicker candle to give away to one of my awesome readers.
