Hey everyone! Thanks for checking out
"Try it Thursday & Review."

Are you ready for Christmas?
Well, since Christmas is just around the corner, I have a few ideas for gifts to give to your loved ones.
You can also find ALL of these ideas {HERE} at Deseret Book.
So, to start us off on a fun and positive side is...
#1 Pingo and the Playground Bully

Pingo and the Playground Bully was chosen to be a featured title by CBC (the Children’s Book Council) for the next two weeks on their homepage. You can visit the Seasonal Showcase, which is currently showcasing books about bullying and education, at

Who has the best imaginary friend? Is it Gary, who protects the galaxy with Sparky the robot? Is it Tiffany, who helps save the day with Awesome Girl? Or Dustin, who can hide Mr. Bob in his pocket? During recess, Chad and his imaginary pet, Pingo, are invited to participate in the contest to see which imaginary friend is the strongest or the smartest or the sneakiest. But when Jeremy, the schoolyard bully, and his imaginary friend, Grunt, barge into the contest, demanding to be included, no one expects what happens next—or how Pingo saves the day.

In my opinion:

This story was educational and delightful. Have you ever felt left out? I'm sure everyone has a story to share. I definitely do so I enjoyed this story about the power of kindness and the importance of always including others. It is super important to teach our children about showing kindness to others especially in this day of age. The illustrations by Brandon Dorman were marvelous. His illustrations were colorful and delightful. I felt like I was on the playground with my imaginary buddy. Brandon Mull wrote this fun story and it doesn't surprise me that he is also the author of the New York Times bestselling Fablehaven series as well as the Beyonders series. Pingo definitely saves the day in this extraordinary story. Loved!!!

What do I have next on my gift giving list?

#2-#3 Good King Wenceslas {Book & DVD} & Mormon Tabernacle Choir-Once upon a Christmas {DVD & CD}

Last year’s Christmas concert with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir featured actress Jane Seymour and singer Nathan Gunn and we’re excited to have the CD, DVD, and children’s book, Good King Wenceslas, available!

About: Good King Wenceslas

One snowy evening, when the rest of the kingdom is reveling in a celebratory feast, a king and his faithful page venture out to deliver food, wood, and comfort to a poor peasant family. "Good King Wenceslas" is the beloved Christmas carol that relates this tender story, and it is brought to life in this book and DVD by actress Jane Seymour and artist Omar Rayyan. The sumptuous illustrations reflect the medieval setting of this tale, capturing the lavish Feast of St. Stephen at the castle and the arduous trek through heavy snow to a humble cottage deep within the forest. The original lyrics to the song, set to music more than 150 years ago, are interwoven throughout the story. The actions of the kind, humble Bohemian king reflect the invitation of another King to follow in His footsteps, bringing the blessings of Christmas to all of His kingdom.
The book includes a DVD featuring Jane Seymour's narration of this classic story, performed with the world-acclaimed Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Also included is an introduction by Jane Seymour and an original illustration created by her especially for this book.

In my opinion:
I was blown away by each of these marvelous products. First, Good King Wenceslas was amazing. I'm afraid that I never knew anything about King Wenceslas till I viewed the DVD. I also had the book opened while I listened to the beautiful music and Jane Seymour as the narrator. She had a beautiful and powerful voice. The illustrations by Omar Rayyan were perfect. I loved his use of watercolor. I definitely recommend this book and DVD especially as a gift to a loved one this Christmas season.
Second, I always enjoy listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Once Upon a Christmas was extraordinary! I felt the power and joy each performer brought to the stage. My favorite song was "Sing Forth this Day." It felt like I was dancing and singing in the 1800's. I also felt like I was in A Christmas Carol {A classic story by Charles Dickens}. I loved the sweet sound of the bells. I was also drawn to Jane Seymour's voice. It was beautiful!
How about a special treasure to give...
#4 The Christmas Train

In this children's picture book, President Thomas S. Monson recounts a Christmas memory from his childhood. As a boy, he yearned for an electric train. To his delight, on Christmas morning he got exactly that—a train that operated through the miracle of electricity. Then he noticed a second train that his mother had purchased for the boy down the street whose family was struggling. Although it was only a wind-up train, it had a beautiful oil tanker car, which little Tommy wanted for his own. Soon after, Tommy's mother invited him to accompany her to the neighbor's home to deliver the gift. Young Mark was thrilled with his new train and, of course, didn't notice the missing train car. However, a remorseful Tommy did. What happened next will bring the spirit of Christmas into every heart and home. Illustrated by renowned artist Dan Burr, The Christmas Train is sure to be a classic Christmas story and a beautiful addition to every Christmas library.

In my opinion:
I absolutely love President Monson's stories especially those of his childhood. This picture book is a wonderful keepsake of one of Monson's precious stories. The illustrations by Dan Burr were amazing as well. He portrayed young Tommy, his mom and friend well. I did have a different ending in mind but Monson  chose the right direction to go. He is a wonderful example of loyalty, honesty and friendship. This book will bring the spirit of Christmas into your heart and home. I definitely recommend this book for young or old.
