Try it Thursday & Review {Running into the Wind}

Today, for
"Try it Thursday & Review,"

I wanted to tell you about a wonderful book called
Running into the Wind.

In Running into the Wind, renowned management consultant Paul Gustavson outlines the “Five Smooth Stones” method BYU Head Football Coach Bronco Mendenhall uses to develop his program and his players.

Brigham Young University Head Football Coach Bronco Mendenhall has established a winning tradition well-known across the country. What isn’t as well known is the process by which he did so.

In Running into the Wind, Coach Mendenhall reveals the principles he learned from leading management consultant Paul Gustavson and the unique way in which he has applied them. Gustavson and co-author Alyson Von Feldt teach that leaders of any organization can apply the “5 Smooth Stones” method, from business units to teams and families.

“Bronco provides the leadership, motivation, and energy for student athletes to balance their lives and develop athletically, academically, and socially,” said Ohio State Head Football Coach, Urban Meyer. “His daily life emphasizes that always doing what is right is a path that can lead to lifetime success for them and their families.”

Running into the Wind provides both an insider’s view into the BYU football program and detailed lessons on the method taught by the coach who taught Coach.

“Alyson and Paul have written an engaging book that will take readers deep into the heart and mind of Bronco Mendenhall,” said Stephen M. R. Covey, a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. “. . . It will also lay out Paul's renowned organizational strategies… that Bronco learned and applied, and that also can guide any leader to organize and move teams to successful outcomes.”

 About the authors:

Paul W. Gustavson is a leading management consultant. He received his master’s degree in organizational behavior from BYU and has served for more than 18 years as a member of the Marriott School of Management’s OBHR Advisory Board.

Alyson Von Feldt has a master’s degree in organizational behavior from BYU. She lives with her husband and four children in Lawrence, Kansas.

 In my opinion:

This book was amazing! I gained an appreciation for Bronco Mendenhall and his leadership skills. Not only is he a leader, he is an inspirational teacher and coach who motivates his athletes to become better. Yes, this book is for the "sports guy," however, it is for ANYONE who wants success in life.

In this book, you will learn 5 strategies for building a successful team. One could apply his principles to work, school or church. There is always a need to build upon oneself. The amazing part about this book is that you get to learn more about Bronco and the difficulties he faced as head coach. You also learn more about Bronco's "system" and the principles and tools he learned from Paul Gustavson. I absolutely recommend this inspirational book to anyone that has a dream. Reach for your dreams and succeed.
